An outstanding female Indian Classical vocalist, Swati has been trained by her mother & Guru, the Late Dr. Sushila Pohankar in Indian Classical & Light Classical music & more recently, she has been receiving guidance from her elder brother Pt. Ajay Pohankar, an eminent vocalist himself.
Swati is one of the most respected voices in Indian Music in the UK, and known worldwide as the voice of "Nadia" on Nitin Sawhney's Mercury nominated album ‘Beyond Skin’. She has also worked on various albums with artists to include Craig Armstrong (Composer of Hollywood movies ‘Moulin Rouge’ and ‘Romeo and Juliet’), Jakatta (“American Dream” – which was no. 3 in the UK main charts), Ustad Zakir Hussain, Talvin Singh, Niraj Chag (Khwaab), Sonu Nigam, Muzaffer Ali & many more.
Swati has toured and performed extensively in U.K., Europe, Caribbean, South Africa, India & Pakistan. She has also performed at venues such as WOMAD, Glastonbury and is a highly reputed artist on the World Music scene. Apart from releasing her own albums 'Dhanak' (introduced by Ustad Ghulam Ali), 'Anjuman', 'Destiny Chakra', which has been widely appreciated by the connoisseurs & ‘Surmohee’ a compilation of her mother’s compositions, Swati's voice also features on Hollywood movie 'The In-Laws', a Warner Brothers Movie starring Michael Douglas, 'The Republic Of Love' directed by Deepa Mehta and the BBC TV Theme music for the Commonwealth Games 2010.
